Arabella
Arctic Monkeys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Arabella's got some interstellar gator-skin boots
And a Helter Skelter 'round her little finger and I ride it endlessly
She's got a Barbarella silver swimsuit
And when she needs to shelter from reality she takes a dip in my daydreams

My days end best when the sunset gets itself
Behind that little lady sittin' on the passenger side
It's much less picturesque without her catchin' the light
The horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes

As Arabella, oh
As Arabella
Just might've tapped into your mind and soul
You can't be sure

Arabella's got a seventies head
But she's a modern lover, it's an exploration, she's made of outer space
And her lips are like the galaxy's edge
And her kiss the color of a constellation fallin' into place

My days end best when the sunset gets itself
Behind that little lady sittin' on the passenger side
It's much less picturesque without her catchin' the light
The horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes

As Arabella, oh
As Arabella
Just might've tapped into your mind and soul
You can't be sure

That's magic in a cheetah-print coat
Just a slip underneath it I hope
Askin' if I can have one of those
Organic cigarettes that she smokes
Wraps her lips 'round a Mexican Coke
Makes you wish that you were the bottle
Takes a sip of your soul and it sounds like

Just might've tapped into your mind and soul
You can't be sure

Overall Meaning

Arctic Monkeys' song Arabella is a psychedelic rock tune that revolves around a mysterious woman named Arabella. The song is filled with references to science fiction and classic cult films, making the story of the song even more intriguing. The opening line of the song, "Arabella's got some interstellar gator-skin boots," sets the tone for the rest of the song, giving the listener an indication that this is not a regular love song.

As the song progresses, we learn more about Arabella. She has a "Barbarella silver swimsuit," a reference to the classic 1968 space adventure Barbarella. The singer also describes Arabella's lips as "like the galaxy's edge," comparing her to a celestial being. The song hints at a strong sexual attraction between the singer and Arabella, with lines like "Just a slip underneath it I hope," referring to her cheetah-print coat.

The chorus of the song, where the singer sings "My days end best when the sunset gets itself, behind that little lady sitting on the passenger side," shows how much the singer admires and respects Arabella. The song has a dreamlike quality, with the singer taking refuge in his daydreams where Arabella offers an escape from reality.

Overall, the song Arabella is a tribute to the power of imagination and fantasy, and how it can be used to escape the harsh realities of life.

@BlackenedGold

I named my daughter after this song. It's the only thing that I could think of that could fit the amount of love I have for her. Her mother knows I'm obsessed with this song and when we were thinking of names this one came on in one of my most listened to playlists.

It was and is a perfect choice.
She owns my heart and lives in my daydreams.

On rough days I crank this kick back and it soothes me.

This song and that lil sweetheart saves me from myself.

It means more to me then any words I could ever write.

Thanks for the jam.
