They burned their song onto six demo CDs and sent them to Warner Bros, but they were quickly forgotten. The CDs lay collecting dust for a decade until they were found in June 2009. One of the CD's appeared in Ebay with a short 30 second clip of the song, but hopes of hearing the song within the fanbase faded as it sold for nearly twelve hundred dollars. The fate of the song was uncertain.
It turned out in the end that the staff at the fansite LPlive.net had obtained a copy of the CD. Finally, it debuted in its entirety to the fanbase on July 1st, on that site.
The song finally saw an official release on August 13, 2020 as a single leading up to Hybrid Theory's 20th anniversary. It was also the first time fans were able to hear the song without the static from a badly-made CD. According to a tweet by Mike Shinoda, the released version also retains the original mix, and was only mastered.

I've heard plenty of Linkin Park songs over my lifetime, but this year I've discovered Papercut, and have listened to Hybrid Theory in full + Reanimation.
How lucky am I to get a demo from that era + more in the same year!

wow.. papercut was how my journey started.. well after seeing one step closer on mtv, of course. So i consider it somewhat the start of my LP journey. and what a powerful start it was ! i still love to play it on drums and i still can't master it quite to my own high standards.
