Iridescent
Linkin Park Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you were standing in the wake of devastation
When you were waiting on the edge of the unknown
And with the cataclysm raining down, insides crying save me now
You were there impossibly alone

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation
You build up hope but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

And in the burst of light that blinded every angel
As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars
You felt the gravity of temper grace falling into empty space
No one there to catch you in their arms

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation
You build up hope but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation
You build up hope but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go

Let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation
You build up hope but failure's all you've known

Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Linkin Park's song "Iridescent" express a sense of loneliness and despair in the face of devastation and despair. The singer speaks directly to the listener, asking if they feel lost and cold in their own desperation, and encouraging them to remember their sadness and frustration and let it go. The repeated phrase "let it go" is a reminder to release the negativity and move forward.

The catastrophic event referred to in the first verse can represent a personal crisis or a larger societal trauma. The image of being alone in the wake of devastation can be a metaphor for feeling isolated in one's suffering. The second verse speaks to a feeling of hopelessness, despite attempts to hold onto optimism. The lines "Remember all the sadness and frustration" acknowledge the pain that has been experienced, and offer a path to healing by releasing those emotions.

The bridge of the song introduces a moment of surrender, when even the angels are blinded by a burst of light. The image of grace falling into empty space, with "No one there to catch you in their arms" emphasizes the solitude of the individual, even in the face of a profound cosmic event.

Overall, the song encourages the listener to let go of their past pain and to move forward with renewed strength and optimism. The repeated phrase "let it go" acts as a mantra throughout the song, a message of hope that connects the listener to the singer and the larger community of human experience.

After a childhood listening to nothing but country music, I began listening to rock in high school. Linkin Park was one of the first bands I heard and they were an instant favorite because their sound was so unique. Chester's gritty, soulful voice and Mike's clear, clean melody just made them one of the few bands I consistently would crank up the volume when one of their songs would come on the radio and sing along.

Chester, you were the voice of a generation. Some, like me, found you in our teenage years when we were looking for an identity. Others grew up listening to you. Losing you is like losing a dear childhood friend, someone a lot of us never met, but loved and held dearly. You'll be missed by a world you were taken from all too soon.

But your memory will live on in the people who loved you and your music. Your spirit will shine through every time a stereo is cranked to maximum over cheap car speakers, the driver singing along at the top of their lungs while they drive down a highway. You will be remembered, you will be loved, you will be missed deeply.

And one more thing...

Thank you, Chester, for everything...

@@miltonacosta6784 Not really. Apart from the Bumble Bee spinoff the Transformers movies kinda sucked.

@@duckhawkninja3614 The first two were actually not bad. They started going downhill with the third, but I do agree that the BumbleBee movie was redeeming.
