The Untitled
Linkin Park Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It starts with one, and multiplies til' you can taste the sun
And burnt by the sky you try to take it from
But if it falls, there's no place to run
Crumbling Down, It's so unreal
They're dealing you in to determine your end
And sending you back again to places you've been
And bending your will, til' it breaks you within
And still they fill their eyes

With the twilight, through the skylight
In my highlights, on a frame of steel
See the brightness of your likeness
As I write this on a pad about the way I feel
Hear the screaming in my dreaming
Has it seeming that you played your part
Like you're heartless, take apart this in the darkness
But I know that I've tried so hard

And got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end, it doesn't even matter

I looked down the line
And what's there is not what ought-to-be
Held back by the battles they fought for me
Calling me to be part of their property
And know I see that I get no chance
I get no break, fakes and snakes quickly lead to mistakes
And as the tightrope within slowly starts to thin
I can only hope that they close their eyes

To the twilight, through the skylight
In my highlights, on a frame of steel
See the brightness of your likeness
As I write this on a pad to the way I feel
Hear the screaming in my dreaming
Has it seeming that you played your part
Like you're heartless, take apart this in the darkness
But I know that I've tried so hard

And got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end, it doesn't even matter

I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this, there's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this, there's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this, there's only one thing you should know

I've tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter

I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end, it doesn't even matter

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Linkin Park's song "The Untitled" reflects on the struggles and challenges that we face in life. The song begins with the idea of a single problem growing and multiplying until it becomes an insurmountable situation. The reference to "tasting the sun" and being "burnt by the sky" suggests that the problem has gotten so big that it is affecting everything else in life. The lyrics go on to express a sense of helplessness, where it feels like there is nowhere to run if things were to fall apart. The line "crumbling down, it's so unreal" portrays the surreal feeling that people experience when they realize that everything that they have built up may soon collapse.

The second verse talks about feeling trapped and not having control over one's life. It speaks to the frustration of being forced to take part in other people's plans and expectations. The reference to "fakes and snakes quickly lead to mistakes" is a reminder that in this world, not everyone is always looking out for our best interests. Ultimately, the song expresses the feeling that despite our best efforts, things may not always go as planned, but it's important to keep pushing forward and trying our best regardless of the outcome. The repetition of the line "I've put my trust in you, pushed as far as I can go" highlights the idea of trying until there's nothing left to give.

Love this version of the song, love the Hybrid theory one, and I love the reanimation version. They all have great verses.

One thing, I don't know how
It doesn't even matter when you look at it now
'Cause when I designed this rhyme
I was scared of it all, scared to fall, and I hadn't even tried to crawl
But I was forced to run with you mocking me, stopping me, backstabbing me constantly
Remembering all the times you fought with me
Watch the clock now chock-full of hypocrisy
But now your mouth wishes it could inhale
Every single little thing you said to make things fail
Every single word you sputtered just to get your piece
But it really doesn't matter to me
'Cause from the start to the end, no matter what I pretend
The journey is more important than the end or the start
And what it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when I tried so hard

One, it multiplies until you can taste the sun
And burn by the sky, you try to take it from
But if it falls, there's no place to run
Crumbling down, it's (so unreal)

They're dealing you in to the term and your end
And sending you back again to places you've been
And bending your will until it breaks you within
And still, they (fill their eyes)

With the twilight, through the skylight
End the highlights on a frame of steel
See the brightness of your likeness as I write this
On a path through (the way I feel)

Hear the screaming, am I dreaming, as it's seeming
That you've played your part
Like you're heartless, take apart this
In the darkness, but I know that

I've tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter

I broke down line once there is not what ought to be
Held back by the battles they fought for me
Calling me to be part of their property
And now I see that I (get no chance)

I get no breaks, fakes and snakes
Quickly lead to mistakes
And now the tightrope within slowly starts to thin
I could only hope that they (close their eyes)

To the twilight, through the skylight
End the highlights on a frame of steel
See the brightness of your likeness as I write this
On a path through (the way I feel)

Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know) x3

I like the album version better. There. I dare say it. You're probably
wondering why.
Sure, this may have more meaning than the album version. But the reason
In The End is my favorite song of all time is because of the feeling I
get when I listen to the song, and especially when I watch the video
along with it. In The End makes me think about my past, the people
who've left for me to never see them again, and what my life was like
years ago compared to now. The song ends, leaving me like, "Holy shit,
that song just took me back in time." while with The Untitled I don't
feel the same way. This is great, and the lyrics are much longer giving
it more meaning, but the simplicity of In The End makes me like it more
than The Untitled.

These lyrics dominate the hell out of In The End's lyrics. No contest at all. They're dealing you in to determine your end and sending you back again to places you've been, and bending your will till it breaks you within, and still they fill their eyes.

It's always nice to come back to the roots of Linkin Park. Rest in peace, Chester Bennington. :(

@youtubu124

See I don’t think they ever lost their roots. I have been listening to sll their songs on loop lately and even as a old time fan. I cant hear a different from one album to the next. All have a distrust for the system, internal strifes, and paranoia. I can relate to chester as he grows. I think new divide was unfairly judged and just as great as Hybrid Theory.

@cxssetteman182

I love the fact that almost all of these songs sound very close to the Studio Release of Hybrid Theory.

It's the sound of Pure Talent. Usually, a band doesn't sound as crisp in their earlier work/demos.

They really were ahead of their time.

This in 1998 would have sounded totally alien.

@Xeregos

They actually played this a few times on the radio when I was young, and I fell in love with it. I would record In The End every time it came on in the hopes that it was this version of it. I would always get sad when my friends had never heard the demo. This one is superior to the album version IMO, because it really lets Mike shine.

@HitlerGaymes123

Every Linkin Park demo is better than the released shit

@pepsifuhrer4828

They sound so much younger. I love this just as much as the final version, but wow Chester and Mike's voices have noticeably aged since this demo.
