Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

Castle of the Glass
Linkin Park Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again
Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black where the sirens sing
Warm me up in a nova's glow
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
Bring me home in a blinding dream
Through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be
'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
For you to see
The lyrics of Linkin Park's song "Castle of Glass" are an introspective reflection on the singer's vulnerability and sense of incompleteness. The first verse expresses a desire to be cleansed and made whole again. The river bend and fighting end are possibly metaphorical references to a place of change or struggle. The poison on the skin represents the toxicity and harmfulness of the outside world. The second half of the verse takes a more surreal turn, as the singer asks to be transported on a silver wing and warmed up in a nova's glow, suggesting a need for transcendence and escape.
The chorus emphasizes the singer's sense of fragility and inadequacy. They feel like a mere "crack in this castle of glass", barely visible or significant. The repetition of this line underscores the importance of this metaphor, casting the "castle of glass" as a symbol of something that is beautiful but delicate, and can be easily shattered. The second verse adds a layer of mystery, speaking of secrets and hidden sorrows. Once again, the singer asks to be washed and made whole again, hoping for a catharsis or resolution. The final repetition of the chorus drives home the point that, despite their flaws and limitations, the singer is enough as they are.

Chester's castle broke just like how he explained it here. We never saw the crack becoming larger and larger. But sadly it is too late. His castle broke. Rest now Chester.
