Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

Linkin Park Lyrics

Clouds pull away and the sunlight's revealed
People don't talk about keeping it real
It's understood that they actually will
And intoxicated and stimulated MCs
Staring in the trees, paranoid, are gone in the breeze
Watch them flee, hip-hop heads
Take a walk with me and what you'll see
And the sky beyond you is Krylon blue
And everybody speaks in a dialect of rhyme
And MCs have left materialism behind them
Meanwhile, I just grip my mic
And hope me and my team make it through alright
Because say what you will, and say what you might
But don't ignore who it's for at the end of the night
Because this is dedicated to the kids
Dedicated to wherever music lives
Dedicated to those tired of the same old same
And dedicated to the people advancin' the game
What's real, is the kids who know that something's wrong
What's real, is the kids who think they don't belong
What's real, is the kids who have nowhere to run
Who are hiding in the shadows, waiting for the sun
I've seen a lot of sh-, I've talked to a bum
Out on Sunset Strip, he asked me, "How would you feel
If everybody acted like you didn't exist?
You'd lose your grip, probably eventually flip"
So let it be known, the only reason that we do this
So you can pick it up and just bang your head to it
While MCs fight to see who can be the commonest
We float overhead like a space odyssey monolith
Over seeing the game, over being part of the same old thing
It's all gonna change in a hurricane of darkness and pain
And acidic rain and promises you won't do it again
Meanwhile, I just grip my mic
And hope me and my team make it through alright
Because say what you will, and say what you might
But don't ignore who it's for at the end of the night
Because this is dedicated to the kids
Dedicated to wherever music lives
Dedicated to those tired of the same old same
And dedicated to the people advancin' the game
What's real, is the kids who know that something's wrong
What's real, is the kids who think they don't belong
What's real, is the kids who have nowhere to run
Who are hiding in the shadows waiting for the sun
Pulling me close, the shadow is warm inside
This is where I feel at home, this is my place to hide
Pulling me close, the shadow is warm inside
This is where I feel at home, this is my place to hide
Because this is dedicated to the kids
Dedicated to wherever music lives
Dedicated to those tired of the same old same
And dedicated to the people advancin' the game
What's real, is the kids who know that something's wrong
What's real, is the kids who think they don't belong
What's real, is the kids who have nowhere to run
Who are hiding in the shadows waiting for the sun
This is dedicated to the kids
Dedicated to wherever music lives
Dedicated to those tired of the same old same
And dedicated to the people advancin' the game
What's real, everybody who doesn't feel safe
What's real, everybody who knows they're out of place
What's real, anybody with nowhere to run
Who hides in the shadows waiting for the sun
In "Dedicated" by Linkin Park, Chester Bennington talks about his dream of a different world, where people are not focused on materialism anymore. In this utopia, everyone speaks in rhyme and is dedicated to the advancement of the hip-hop game. The song is dedicated to those who feel like they don't belong and have nowhere to run. Chester talks about how he has seen a lot of bad things in the world, and it is the reason they create music, so people can pick it up and bang their heads to it.
The first verse of the song takes place in a futuristic world where everything is different, and the MCs are influenced by the beauty of nature. The skies are Krylon blue, and the sand is made of crushed up wax. The MCs have left materialism behind and are focused on the advancement of the hip-hop game. Chester talks about how he grips his mic and hopes that he and his team make it through alright in this new world.
The second verse of the song is more grounded in reality. Chester talks about meeting a homeless man on Sunset Strip who asked how he would feel if people acted like he didn't exist. This is a reflection of how a lot of people feel and how music is an escape for many. Chester talks about how their music is for those who feel like they don't belong and for those who are hiding in the shadows waiting for the sun.
Overall, "Dedicated" is a song about hope and unification. It's about creating a new world where everyone is accepted for who they are, and everyone can contribute to the betterment of society.

20 years old and Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory is still one of the most relevant albums out there. The demo content is amazing, this song still smashes most of the new releases of other bands out the water.
When I was younger, I went through a real rough patch music was one of the real things that kept me grounded and helped me to coalesce my thoughts and feelings to words and actions, Linkin Park as a result of being a band who I listened to, as a 16 year old and resonated with hugely, are a massive part of why I am here today. Hybrid Theory was one of the most seminal pieces of art in my life that helped dictate who I became. Earlier this year when the COVID pandemic and the impact of not seeing family or friends in months couple with a shitty job was literally killing me I fired up my Spotify and threw the album on again and the clarity of vision and purpose it gave me, the way it made me reconnect with myself because I was pushing myself away for months helped massively once more to ground me and coalesce my thoughts and feelings in to words and actions.
There will never be a time in my life I think where Linkin Park and their music will not be important to me, and I love that whilst some of the seminal bands in my life have remained the same, Linkin Park constantly evolved and grew... As written in When they Come For Me:
And it seems ugly, but it can get worse
'Cause even a blueprint is a gift and a curse
'Cause once you got a theory of how the thing works
Everybody wants the next thing to be just like the first
Over the last 20 years you guys (the band) have inspired me, grounded me, restored me and ultimately, given me reasons to keep moving forwards, to evolve, to change. Can't thank you enough for that.
