Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

Sometimes I wonder why this is happening
It's like nothing I can do would distract me when
I think of how I shot myself in the back again
Cuz from the infinite words I can say I
Put all pain you gave to me on display
But didn't realize instead of setting it free I
Took what I hated and made it a part of me
(Never goes away)
(Never goes away)
[Chorus]
(And now)
(You've become a part of me)
(You'll always be right here)
(You've become a part of me)
(You'll always be my fear)
(I can't separate)
(Myself from what I've done)
(Giving up a part of me)
(I've let myself become you)
Hearing your name the memories come back again
I remember when it started happening
I see you in every thought I had and then
The thoughts slowly found words attached to them
And I knew as they escaped away
I was committing myself to them and everyday
I regret saying those things cuz now I see that I
Took what I hated and made it a part of me
(Never goes away)
(Never goes away)
[Chorus]
(And now)
(You've become a part of me)
(You'll always be right here)
(You've become a part of me)
(You'll always be my fear)
(I can't separate)
(Myself from what I've done)
(Giving up a part of me)
(I've let myself become you)
(Never goes away)
(Never goes away)
(Never goes away)
(Never goes away)
(Get away from me)
Give me my space back you gotta just
(Go)
Everything comes down the memories of
(You)
I kept it in but now I'm letting you
(Know)
I let you go so get away from
(Me)
Give me my space back you gotta just
(Go)
Everything comes down the memories of
(You)
I kept it but now I'm letting you
(Know)
I let you go
(And then)
(You've become a part of me)
(You'll always be right here)
(You've become a part of me)
(You'll always be my fear)
(I can't separate)
(Myself from what I've done)
(Giving up a part of me)
(I've let myself become you)
The lyrics of the song reflect the experience of the singer struggling with their inner demons as they try to let go of painful memories and thoughts that haunt them. No matter what they do, they cannot escape the pain and are constantly reminded of what they did wrong. The singer has come to the realization that by dwelling on the past and trying to get back at the person who hurt them, they have only made things worse for themselves. They have become exactly what they despised and are now stuck with the consequences of their actions.
The chorus emphasizes that the pain and fear have become an integral part of the singer's identity. They cannot separate themselves from the pain and fear, and they have become similar to the person who hurt them. The memories of the person who hurt them are so deeply ingrained that they have become a permanent part of the singer's being.
In the end, the singer accepts the pain and fear that have become a part of them and tries to let go of the memories by telling the person who hurt them to go away. The singer knows that they must move on from the past and become a better person. The song ends with the singer finally letting go of the past and moving forward to a better future.

Linkin Park - Given Up Lyrics
Wake in a sweat again
Another day's been laid to waste
In my disgrace
Stuck in my head again
Feels like I'll never leave this place
There's no escape
I'm my own worst enemy
I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away
I'm suffocating!
Tell me what the fuck is wrong with me!
I don't know what to take
Thought I was focused, but I'm scared
I'm not prepared
I hyperventilate
Looking for help somehow, somewhere
And no one cares
I'm my own worst enemy
I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away
I'm suffocating!
Tell me what the fuck is wrong with me!
God!
Put me out of my misery
Put me out of my misery
Put me out of my...
Put me out of my fucking misery!
I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away
I'm suffocating!
Tell me what the fuck is wrong with me!

That 17 second scream is (in my opinion) the ultimate example of how talented Chester was.
@nyannaaung2544
Pure emotion and energy in that scream. Gives me goosebumps everytime.
@marcbarantes7342
Its 18...
@hfestag
It wasn't the scream that shows his talent. It was being able to do that then turn around and sing the softest notes you would think angel would sing.
@nero8041
fry scream doesn't take much air
@hfestag
@@nero8041 but it strains your vocal cords and switching from a low note from the scream to the higher notes of the singing takes talent. Have you ever tried to scream that long then turn around and sing soft notes right after? It takes major talent.
@GbrCaz
Chester Bennington: screams
Me: aggressively whispers
