Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

But hands beg me to stay
Your lips say that you love
Your eyes say that you hate
There's truth in your lies
Doubt in your faith
What you build, you lay to waste
Doubt in your faith
All I've got's what you didn't take
So I, I won't be the one
Be the one to leave this
In pieces
And you, you will be alone
Alone with all your secrets
And regrets
Don't lie
You promise me the sky
Then toss me like a stone
You wrap me in your arms
And chill me to the bone
There's truth in your lies
Doubt in your faith
All I've got's what you didn't take
So I, I won't be the one
Be the one to leave this
In pieces
And you, you will be alone
Alone with all your secrets
And regrets
Don't lie
So I, I won't be the one
Be the one to leave this
In pieces
And you, you will be alone
Alone with all your secrets
And regrets
Don't lie
The song "In Pieces" by Linkin Park is a reflection on a failing relationship where one partner is trapped in emotional turmoil. The lyrics convey the confusion and pain of being in a situation where you want to leave, but there's a part of you that wants to stay. The song begins with the partner asking the singer to leave, while their hands tell a different tale, begging them to stay. The partner's lips say they love the singer, but their eyes show they hate them. This line suggests that the relationship is a mixture of love and hate and is no longer healthy.
The chorus expresses the idea that the partner is holding onto secrets, and they will be left alone to face them. The other partner acknowledges that there is doubt in faith, and this relationship is laid to waste. The song speaks to the idea that as much as they want to leave the relationship, their love is stronger, and they won't be the one to leave it in pieces. In the second verse, the singer describes being promised the sky and then tossed like a stone. The partner wraps them in their arms, but they chill the singer to the bone. It suggests that the partner is giving mixed signals and doesn't know what they want.
The song's theme is the struggle to keep a relationship together while acknowledging that it is falling apart. The chorus repeats, telling the partner not to lie and hold onto their secrets. The song is a reminder that when a relationship ends, it can leave a person feeling alone, with no one to talk to about their pain.

This song makes me remember my past. When I was a teenager, with bad friends.
We used to be bad and didn't care at all of the future.
Soon I evolved as a person and make new friends that I can trust.
I changed, find love.
Got heart broken, but found myself at a better place.
I used to listen to this song when I was alone and frustrated.
Now I listen to this song to remind myself to regret nothing.
And live my life.

Am I only the one who listened to Linkin Park simply because they're good and not because of crippling depression? Mike shinoda is a hell of a lyricist.
