Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

Linkin Park Lyrics

How long will it take before you make everything
Break down around you
Everything that you do reminds me of why it is I can't stand you
Everything I thought was real was not
Everything I remembered you forgot
Everything's a joke to you
I hope sometime you get hit by the punchline
Reminding me of what you put me through
'Cause everything that goes up must come down
And everything you do hurts worse when it comes back around
Now see what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
See what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
You say could make me stay
All the lies disguised have done nothing but make me ask why
Nothing is what I've got
After all of the same pain
You've brought I thought would never stop
Nothing has changed
All the things you said to me then have begun to follow me again
Even though I know there's nothing to be afraid of
The same place the shape came from is making me hide
Inside a place where everything's gray
Constantly forcing the night over the day
Where nothing exists but the things that you say
And nothing could make me want to be further away
Now see what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
See what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
Now see what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
See what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
See what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
See what I have, and I want you
To be with me, but you'll just stick and
The lyrics to Linkin Park's "Move On" convey a sense of frustration and resentment towards a person who is perceived as fake and manipulative. The singer expresses their disappointment in the individual's behavior, feeling that everything they say seems forced and insincere. They question how long it will take for this person to realize the impact of their actions when everything around them eventually crumbles.
The lyrics also highlight the contrast between what was believed to be real and what turned out to be false. The singer recalls how their perception of reality was shattered, and they were left questioning the authenticity of their experiences. The person's jokes and lack of empathy towards others further aggravate the singer, who hopes that one day they will face the consequences of their behavior.
The chorus reveals the singer's conflicted feelings. While they acknowledge seeing a resemblance of this person in their own actions, reminding them of the pain they endured, they still long for their presence. However, they understand that this person will only continue to deceive and manipulate, hence the phrase "stick and move," indicating a pattern of fleeting encounters.
Overall, "Move On" explores the bitterness and disappointment felt towards someone who has deceived and hurt the singer, while also acknowledging the difficulty of completely moving on from their toxic influence.

To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
But you will merely come and go without true commitment
See what I have, and I want you
Recognize what I possess and how I long for your company
To be with me, but you'll just stick and move
Yet you will only briefly stay before departing once again

Yeah
Yo
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
And though the words sound steady, something's empty within 'em
We say, yeah, with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and fear
Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear
Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go
I know what it takes to move on
(Oh) I know how it feels to lie
(Oh) all I wanna do is trade this life for something new
(Oh) holding on to what I haven't got
Sitting in an empty room
Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn't so
I know what it takes to move on
(Oh) I know how it feels to lie
(Oh) all I wanna do is trade this life for something new
(Oh) holding on to what I haven't got
Yo, yo
What was left when that fire was gone?
I thought it felt right, but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it's like moving on
And I don't even know what kind of things I've said
My mouth kept moving, and my mind went dead
So, I'm picking up the pieces now where to begin
The hardest part of ending is starting again
All I wanna do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
Though the words sound steady, something empty's within them
We say, yeah, with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we get it, forget it, let it all disappear
